Scaleby Castle

Scaleby Castle is a privately owned grade one listed building some 8km North East of Carlisle.

Heritage Consolidation were asked to carry out essential work to the base of the South tower. The foundations were in a poor state and it was causing the masonry to lean outwards. In order to rectify this problem we propped the tower above then allowing us to remove the affected stone at base level. Additional stone was then used to build up new foundations to support the weight from above. This traditional method effectively supported the whole tower and in addition we replaced the masonry above with the previously numbered and recorded stonework.

As with all of our work, we take photographs during all phases of the project in order to create an exact match to the original building.
